PRESENTATION
OF THE COLLECTIVE

Radikal Sounds stands is a DIY audio collective, established in the last month of 2021. The collective is dedicated to disseminating expertise regarding audio equipment operation, encompassing recording and concert setup, alongside sound processing intricacies tied to DIY music creation. Concurrently, we are driven to facilitate workshops, film showings, and dialogues exploring the transformative potential and viewpoints regarding sound and music. Our commitment to DIY transcends the mere rejection of music’s commercialization; it embodies a self-directed and anti-spectacular approach in contrast to mainstream cultural productions.

SCREENING

Sisters with Transistors is a documentary highlighting the often-overlooked female innovators of electronic music, such as Clara Rockmore and Laurie Spiegel, who pushed musical boundaries with their experimental use of machines. It narrates the silenced history of women in music, presenting how electronic technology enabled them to circumvent the male-dominated industry and contribute profoundly to music and society. Narrated by Laurie Anderson, the film explores the transformative impact of electronic music on how we create, perform, and perceive sound, underscoring the vital yet unrecognized contributions of women to this genre and our auditory culture.

SUPPORT DIY COMMUNITY

Deep within the heart of the DIY music scene, a vibrant force pulses, nurturing awareness, shaping convictions, and staunchly resisting any attempts to stifle its vitality. Through self-organization and collaboration within this community, we endeavor to deconstruct the prevailing organizer-spectator paradigm that governs profit-driven commercial entertainment spaces. Instead, we seize control by curating and orchestrating our own performances.

We eschew the concept of passive consumption and, in its place, cultivate an environment where all are encouraged to actively partake, contribute, and immerse themselves in the music and the community it fosters. Central to this ethos is the promotion of anti-commercialism, a principle to which we remain steadfastly committed. Despite the various expenses involved, we unwaveringly uphold the tradition of providing a contribution box at the entrance of our events, allowing attendees to give what they can, thus ensuring that financial constraints never become a barrier to participation.

To enable these endeavors and bring our ongoing projects to fruition, we rely on your invaluable financial support. Your contributions will directly bolster initiatives such as the upkeep of our sound system and the enhancement of our event space, among others.

In extending your financial support, you become an integral cog in this endeavor, championing the values of creativity and grassroots collaboration. Together, we forge a vibrant and inclusive DIY music community that exalts the potency of collective expression.

To ensure that all individuals who interact with us feel safe and comfortable, we operate under a zero-tolerance policy against any form of discrimination, including but not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and ableism.

If you experience discomfort or come across any behavior that is reproachable, please contact an organizer as promptly as possible.
